Sagora Senior Living: COVID-19 Update – May 12, 2020

As Alabama begins to take steps towards reopening businesses, we understand there may be some confusion as to where this leaves our communities and when family members will be able to visit again.

While Governor Ivey has made an executive order to reopen some Alabama businesses, it is also stated that, “all Nursing Home/Long Term Care Facilities (including Assisted Living and Specialty Care Assisted Living Facilities) shall prohibit visitation of all visitors, as defined by the facility, and non-essential health care personnel, except for certain compassionate care situations.”

Visits to senior living communities can possibly resume in what is anticipated to be the third phase of the Guidelines for Opening Up America Again. At this time, Alabama entered the first phase on May 11, 2020. We’d like to add that this is all very uncertain and data changes on a daily basis. The length of time that each phase will last depends on the amount of cases within a state, county and city and whether the number of positive tests is declining. Please rest assured that our protocols will be guided by the policies of federal officials and the CDC for the safety and protection for our residents and associates. We will reopen our communities when federal officials, the CDC and our leadership team are all in agreeance that it is safe to do so.

We understand how difficult it has been for our residents’ loved ones not being able to visit them at the community. We are doing everything we can to best protect our residents from the spread of COVID-19. The Governor has stated that the most important strategy moving forward in opening up Alabama requires us to strengthen our efforts for our seniors and nursing home residents.

We are so looking forward to reopening our community but will not do so until we reach the third phase and feel that it is safe for our residents. As a reminder, you can contact our community any time to set up a FaceTime or Skype session with your loved one.

We will continue to update our residents, their responsible parties and our associates every step of the way and with what reopening will look like as new regulations are released. Until there is a vaccine for COVID-19, this will be a heavily regulated process. Additionally, stay tuned to our social media pages as we will provide updates as they arise.
