National Caregivers Day
Caregivers are special people. They give their time, energy and encouragement to help others. Those who rely on caregivers put their trust and wellbeing in their hands. Understandably, it’s a big responsibility. Friday, Feb. 15, Ellery Arbor Memory Care celebrates all caregivers on National Caregivers Day.
National Caregivers Day was founded by Providers Association for Home Health & Hospice Agencies in 2015. It was first celebrated in February 2016 as a way of thanking individuals who dedicate themselves to the care of another person.
Caregiving for a person with an Alzheimer’s, dementia or memory-related diagnosis can be challenging. Early on, families may attempt to manage without an established support system in place. A few tips to assist family or friend caregivers is to:
- Send a note of thanks or words of encouragement
- Provide a meal for them
- Offer a break for a caregiver, so they can rest or run errands
- Suggest that they partner with a memory care team like Ellery Arbor Memory Care and the Pathways Memory Care Program
Ellery Arbor Memory Care along with our Pathways Programs offers support for family caregivers as well as individuals. We know that each journey is unique. We also know that maintaining a high quality of life and dignity for those we care for is critical.
At Ellery Arbor Memory Care our associates understand the importance of connecting with those we serve on a personal level. Our Pathways Memory Care Program is a focused approach which provides the best possible lifestyle, care and environment for residents. It is based on the following three principles: dignity, maximizing choices (as appropriate) and focusing on the individual to increase comfort and decrease anxiety.
As caregivers, making sure those who rely on us know that they are appreciated and understood as individuals is something we value in the quality and compassionate support that we provide. We care, and it shows.
