Shelter In Place Begins at Florida Communities Preparing for Hurricane Irma

Dear Sagora Residents and Families,
As Hurricane Irma approaches, it could possibly impact our Florida communities. We want to inform you we activated our ‘shelter-in-place’ preparations to keep our residents and our associates as safe and comfortable as possible during the potential storm conditions.

Currently, our residents are not in a mandatory or voluntary evacuation area; however, we are well-prepared to care for our residents with our ‘shelter-in-place’ action plan. The benefits of this plan are that we can keep assisted living and memory care residents in their apartments with our associates nearby before, during and after the challenges of rapid weather changes. This provides continued access to our top-quality care and provisions.

Last week we activated our community specific weather impact teams and plans. These plans include positioning additional emergency generators, increasing medicinal supplies, extending associate work hours, scheduling more associates for specific work shifts and coordinating communication at all levels of the organization. In addition, we have stocked the community pantries, kitchens and freezers so that assisted living and memory care residents will not need to leave the community during any stage of storm conditions or post-storm cleanup nearby, unless required by authorities to do so.

Our associates who are caring for your loved ones are fully prepared for an extended duration of care. We are cooperating with local authorities to ensure the safety of our residents. If necessary, municipal emergency response coordinators will notify us in advance of potential evacuation plans. We are thankful to the local police departments and emergency response teams for involving our associates in their planning and considering our communities to be a priority.
