Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month: Purposeful Programming at Sagora Senior Living

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. As we reflect on this month, we’d like to share some statistics with you. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, an estimated 5.8 million Americans age 65 and older are living with Alzheimer’s dementia in 2020. Eighty percent are age 75 or older. One in 10 people age 65 and older (10%) has Alzheimer’s dementia. As the number of older Americans grows rapidly, so too will the number of new and existing cases of Alzheimer’s. By 2050, the number of people age 65 and older with Alzheimer’s dementia may grow to a projected 13.8 million, barring the development of medical breakthroughs to prevent, slow or cure Alzheimer’s disease.

If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia, we’re here for you every step of the way at Sagora Senior Living. Our memory care communities offer a variety of purposeful programs called Sagora Pathways which provide the best possible lifestyle, care and environment for our residents. By understanding their unique needs, we’re able to best support them as they progress through the stages of dementia and cater to their specific needs.

Our programming includes:

Dining with GRACE: Great food, Respect, Atmosphere, Chef-prepared, Every meal every day: We implement this during meal time. From atmosphere to service, the focus is thoughtfully designed for comfort. Light music is played, food options are visually presented so residents are given a better opportunity to make a choice without added confusion and frustration on their part and each meal is chef-prepared with focus on quality and presentation.

Reminisce Programs: We incorporate reminisce programs through our Memory Boxes and Cherished Memory Collections. Cherished Memory Collections are baskets or boxes with items that are intended to elicit stories and memories from the residents. Each box is filled with photos, familiar smells, recipes and any other tangible items that residents can share stories about and reminisce with.

Life Skills Stations: Using life skills help residents feel comfortable and engage in activities they’re familiar with. A variety of life skills stations are positioned around our Memory Care communities for resident use and interaction.

These are just a few of the features your loved one can expect at our Memory Care communities. Our goal is to make each resident feel like they are at home. Consistent sights, sounds, aromas and objects increase comfort and decrease anxiety. Visit our website at sagora.com/communities/ to schedule a virtual tour and to speak with one of our memory care experts today. We offer Memory Care communities in Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida and California in addition to Cottages, Independent Living and Assisted Living.

Do you have questions? We have answers.

At Sagora Senior Living our goal is to be accessible to our residents and their families, our future associates, and our customers. To that end, we look forward to hearing from you.
