Celebrating National Native American Heritage Month at Sagora Senior Living

At Sagora Senior Living, we are constantly creating new experiences to engage our residents and find exciting ways to showcase our amazing communities and how we truly embrace each moment we create together.

Every November, Sagora Senior Living proudly celebrates Native American Heritage Month — a time to recognize the rich culture, traditions, and contributions of Native Americans throughout history. This observance provides an opportunity for reflection, education, and appreciation for the diverse backgrounds that make up our Sagora family, including residents and team members of Native American heritage.

At Sagora Senior Living, embracing diversity is more than a statement — it’s a daily practice. Our communities are home to residents from all walks of life, each bringing their own stories, customs, and traditions that shape our shared experience. Native American Heritage Month reminds us of the importance of honoring these voices and the deep roots they hold in our nation’s story. From art and storytelling to music and cuisine, Native American culture continues to inspire connection, gratitude, and respect — values that align closely with our own resident-first philosophy.

Honoring History and Heritage

Throughout history, Native Americans have made immeasurable contributions to the arts, medicine, agriculture, military service, and environmental stewardship. Their wisdom and traditions continue to teach us about balance, community, and respect for the land. Within our Sagora communities, we strive to honor these contributions not only during November but year-round. Whether through cultural education, heritage celebrations, or simply by taking time to listen to a resident’s story, we recognize that every person’s background enriches the fabric of our communities.

Many of our residents have proudly shared stories of their ancestry — tales of craftsmanship, family gatherings, and traditional foods passed down through generations. Team members, too, have shared how their Native heritage has shaped their values of compassion, care, and dedication to service — qualities that are evident in their work every day. By encouraging these personal stories, Sagora creates an environment where history lives on through connection and community.

Celebrating in Our Communities

Sagora communities across the country are finding special ways to celebrate Native American Heritage Month. Some host educational luncheons where residents learn about the history and significance of Native American symbols, languages, and regional tribes. Others bring in local performers or artisans to showcase traditional music, dance, or crafts — creating opportunities for residents to experience these vibrant traditions firsthand.

Culinary teams often prepare themed meals inspired by Native American ingredients and flavors, such as wild rice, corn, squash, and berries, offering residents a delicious way to explore the diversity of Indigenous cuisine. In some communities, residents participate in storytelling sessions or craft projects, such as making dreamcatchers, pottery, or beaded jewelry, celebrating the artistry and symbolism of these crafts.

Through these celebrations, our communities not only pay tribute to Native American culture but also strengthen the bonds among residents and team members. Each event becomes an opportunity to learn, share, and appreciate the many ways heritage shapes who we are today.

A Culture of Respect and Inclusion

At Sagora Senior Living, our mission is to create communities where residents thrive — and part of thriving means feeling seen, valued, and respected for who they are. Embracing cultural diversity allows us to better serve our residents and cultivate a welcoming environment for all. Native American Heritage Month is a time to reaffirm that commitment, ensuring that each story, tradition, and voice is celebrated and preserved.

As we honor Native Americans past and present, we are reminded of the power of community — a value deeply rooted in both Sagora’s philosophy and Native American culture. Together, we continue to build spaces where diversity is embraced, inclusion is practiced, and every resident feels at home.

We are proud to play a vital role in helping seniors live longer and the best life possible. With 95 communities in 10 different states, Sagora Senior Living offers seniors the chance to live in active, social communities where they can thrive on a daily basis.
