Celebrating our Veterans- Briarview Senior Living

We are so thankful for the men and women who have served our country and defended our freedom!

For Veterans Day, we asked veterans across Sagora communities to share their experiences with us, including the lessons they learned and their favorite memories from their time in the US Armed Forces. We’re so thankful for those who shared their experiences with us. Here are the stories from veterans at Briarview Senior Living in Carrollton, Texas.

Fred M. served in the Air Force from 1954-1967 and the Air Force Reserves from 1978-1986 as an aircraft loadmaster and computer programmer. He says he learned lifelong career skills through his service.

Roger H. served in the military during the Korean War. He enjoyed the time he spent in the service, saying it made him a better person and a better family man. Combat taught him how to keep going and not give up.

Edward W. served in the Air Force as a communications officer from 1954-1956. He says his service expanded his world view and he enjoyed relationships with his fellow airmen.

Pamela E. served as a computer programmer and analyst in the Air Force, serving from 1974-1980. She says her time in the military gave her direction for a long-term career and made her appreciate life in America more.

Clarke E. served in the Air Force for 20 years, from 1960-1980. He was a computer programmer sand says the service taught him the skills he needed to succeed as an adult. “The service sort of shaped my life,” he says.

Rex T. served in the Army from 1953-1955, working as a fire officer. “By serving in the Army, many doors were opened for me and I was sort of an engineer,” he says.

Don K. served in the Navy across three decades, from the 1940s to the 1960s. He worked in Naval aviation, specifically anti-submarine warfare. He says he took away discipline and decision making, and learned to look out for his fellow servicemen and veterans.

Ray Q. served in the Navy from 1957-1960 as a Supply Officer onboard a destroyer. He learned how to be a good coworker and appreciated getting the chance to see the world.

Frank T. served in the National Guard as a gunnery sergeant from 1956-1962. He learned how to be responsible and enjoyed time on the firing range.

James L. served in the Army from 1957-1958, working in intelligence. After his discharge, he worked with the Department of Defense in an intelligence role.
