We are so thankful for the men and women who have served our country and defended our freedom!
In the leadup to Veterans Day, we asked veterans across Sagora communities to share their experiences with us, including the lessons they learned and their favorite memories from their time in the US Armed Forces. We’re so thankful for those who shared their experiences with us and we’re thrilled to share their stories:
Al S. served in the Navy for 21 months starting in 1956. He went overseas three times. Following his stint in the Navy, he visited Hong Kong, where he heard someone calling his name from a nearby mountain. When he went to investigate, he found it was coming from an old friend that he had served with.
Charles L. served in the Air Force from 1948-1953. His service helped him decide what he wanted to do next. Following his discharge, he became a minister. His post-service travels took him to some of the same places that he had visited during his time in the Air Force while he was stationed in Japan.
JB M. served in the Navy as part of its 5th Fleet from 1944-1946. He credited his service with helping him learn how to take care of himself as an adult. He says that whenever he had a problem “the Lord took care of me.”
