Meet Kristian Pardo, our Lifestyles Director at Adante Independent Living in San Antonio, Texas. Her journey at the community began five years ago as a server in the culinary department before transitioning to Dining Room Manager.
Her passion for residents was evident from day one and she was quickly encouraged by the community’s Executive Director, Tiffany Dove, to transition to the lifestyles department where associates provide fun, vibrant programming for our residents. “I soon began to learn the positive impact the Lifestyles department had within the community and how the activities we offered contributed to the resident’s quality of life. I was hooked. I knew I wanted to make a difference,” said Kristian.
In September 2019, Kristian was promoted to Lifestyles Director. “As I transitioned to director, I embraced a growth mindset as I learned my job while adding my own ideas to the foundation previously built in the department. Growing through our Culinary department and transitioning to Lifestyles helped me see the community on a larger scale and how all of the departments truly come together to create a cohesive, thriving community,” said Kristian.
When asked what made her want to start a career in senior living, Kristian says, “I was curious to know what it’s like to work with seniors. It’s been a wonderful learning experience. To have a connection with this generation, listen to their stories and be a part of their everyday lives has improved my own. The relationships that I’ve built with the residents is so fulfilling and has made me realize that it’s my calling to serve. It’s like having a community full of family.”
Her advice for anyone looking to grow within their company is simple and wise – “love what you do, work hard and always remember that failure is part of success.” Kristian says that she had no idea how working with seniors would impact her life and would love the opportunity to speak to young people one day about working in the senior living industry and to share her positive experiences with them.
