Halloween Activities for Seniors!

At Sagora Senior Living we get creative with ways to engage our residents and ensure we have fun all year long! Kicking off the holiday season with fall festivals and Halloween excitement, we want to highlight how to best involve seniors in the ghostly fun.

Double, double toil and trouble! The spooky season is upon us with Halloween being next week, it’s time to prepare for the excitement of the season. Grab your witch’s hat or spooky mask and be sure to include everyone in your Halloween plans as children aren’t the only ones celebrating the holiday! There are many activities for adults beyond simply passing out candy that can inspire you and your loved one to join in the fun. Sagora Senior Living communities do a smashing good job of creating ideas to help seniors and their caregivers get in the spirit. Here are some ideas to engage your senior in the Halloween fun.

Halloween Movies

Watching spooky films is a quintessential favorite among Halloween activities, perfect to do solo or with a group. Younger generations can share their favorite newer movies with seniors, and grandparents can introduce grandkids to some of the classics. If scary movies aren’t your thing, there are plenty of films out there that skip the scare and just have a fun Halloween theme.

Festive Crafts

Now who doesn’t love a good Halloween craft? Our top suggestion is to keep it fun and keep it simple. Those are the secrets to Halloween arts and crafts for seniors. A big favorite is to paint pumpkins rather than carve them – double the fun yet safer and less messy! For added enjoyment, once you are finished be sure to display them for a festive atmosphere or place them outside to let everyone know you’re celebrating.

Themed Treats

Our culinary teams are amazing when it comes to festive treats, but even if you don’t have a chef nearby you can still get creative. Both creating the treats as well as eating them are delightful Halloween activities.

Scary Stories

Adults can read a little of these classic Halloween tales each night leading up to Halloween but beware — you might get hooked. Find a copy of a favorite creepy story or listen to an audiobook. Another way to celebrate with stories is to have seniors sit with the grandkids and read a Halloween book with them, or have the kids read to a grandparent! Or skip the book all together and make up your own scary story, sometimes those are the best.

As we get further into the season and all the ghouls and goblins begin to creep out, there are plenty of Halloween activities for adults and kids to join in the tricks and treats. Regardless of how you decide to have fun with seniors this Halloween, be sure to stay present in the moment and soak up those holiday memories as that’s the part that lasts long after the Jack-o’-lantern burns out. From our Sagora Senior Living family, we wish you a safe and fun Halloween!
