When he’s not driving the community bus, taking residents to and from meals, appointments, and social outings, you’ll find Elison Assisted Living & Memory Care of Graham team member James T. singing. Whether at church or at the community, James loves to show off his voice, and when he’s around residents at Elison of Graham, it serves a deeper purpose.
For James, singing is a way to make residents comfortable and help them feel at home and safe within the community. It’s a way for him to give back and help further Sagora Senior Living’s Resident First mission.
That’s why he loves to spontaneously break out in song.
“I feel it’s important to serve the needs of our residents by creating and maintaining a safe haven for them to live in,” James said.
Whenever a resident is in need, James is there. He prides himself on being available to all and living a service-oriented life. That’s why he takes time to interact with each resident, and why he arrives at the community every day with a smile.
James draws inspiration from his faith. He says that his need to serve comes from what he has learned all his life: that he should always help others and make the world around him a better place. That’s why he chose to work in the field of Senior Living – because he felt he could drive positive change in the lives of the community’s residents.
“My calling is to serve the children of god in whatever capacity that he will allow me to,” James said. “I love to help my fellow human!”
By serving as the community’s bus driver, he fills a role that allows him to be committed to service, taking residents to appointments and outings, and playing a key part in making sure each resident can thrive at the community. James says he looks forward to the outings and the field trips – events that take place at each Sagora Senior Living community. These outings and events lead to smiles and happy faces for residents, giving James a sense of pride and fulfillment.
There have been a lot of fun events during his time at Elison Assisted Living & Memory Care of Graham and he says he doesn’t necessarily have a favorite memory. For James, the memories that he cherishes comes from a smile on the face of a resident hearing him break out in song, or a simple “thank you” after he has made sure a resident is happy, safe and secure.
“My favorite memory is helping the residents and team members past and present,” James said.
