In addition to Independent Living and Assisted Living, Sagora Senior Living is proud to offer Memory Care living options for our residents. As we understand that Memory Care can be a sensitive subject and perhaps confusing and overwhelming for family members, we have launched a blog series devoted entirely to Memory Care. Our hope is that we provide educational resources, answers to frequently asked questions and support as you navigate your loved one’s Alzheimer’s or dementia diagnosis.
As we continue to discuss nutrition and how it relates to Memory Care, we will focus on what our Dining with GRACE program is and how it benefits our Memory Care residents as this week’s feature. GRACE is an acronym that stands for “Great food, Respect, Atmosphere, Chef-prepared, Every meal, every day” We incorporate our Dining with GRACE program during mealtime. From atmosphere to service, the focus is thoughtfully designed for comfort and allows our Memory Care residents to be treated with grace and dignity in a relaxing environment with superior service. Below are some of the practices we incorporate during mealtime with your loved one. These practices can be implemented at home as well.
One of the ways Dining with GRACE is special is the way we present our dining options to our residents with dementia. Dementia affects many parts of the brain, two of those areas being, comprehension and vision. We encourage residents to choose their meal by visually showing them two options at their table. This gives them a better opportunity to choose the meal they want without added confusion.
While residents are enjoying their meals, care associates are encouraged to engage in conversation with residents. The atmosphere for the meal service is set by playing pleasant music, that gives the dining area a great feeling. Making this time special is one of our associates’ top priority. This is just one of the many ways we give our Memory Care residents a dignified and positive living experience.
