The Viera Senior Living in Corpus Christ, Texas was proud to celebrate the 100th birthday of resident, Audrey J., on February 1, 2021. The community celebrated her special day with a family and friends drive-by parade complete with friendly faces, decorations, car honks and lots of joy! You can see footage from the event along with an interview with Audrey from 3 News in Corpus Christi here.
Audrey was born in 1921 in Madison, Wisconsin to Adelbert “AJ”, a law student at the University of Wisconsin, and Hazel Mae, a nursing student at Madison General Hospital.
She graduated from Lutheran High School in 1937 and Milwaukee-Downer College in 1941 with a Bachelor of Science in Foods & Nutrition & Chemistry. Her first job was working for Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. With World War II on and the Army needing hospital dietitians, she enlisted in the military and was sent to England. She served for the Army until 1945.
From there, Audrey took a job as Chief Dietitian at Kuakini Hospital and married the love of her life on July 11, 1954. They had three children together.
Audrey has greatly enjoyed traveling with several long trips to Israel, Europe, China, Australia and New Zealand. She continued to work as a dietitian through consulting and part-time clinic work for several hospitals. In addition to enjoying time with her family, Audrey joined the American Association of University Women and the women’s ministry group at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
Audrey has done more in a lifetime than others can dream of! We were honored to have be able to celebrate this milestone with her at The Viera.
